How to Anchor In Times Like These

Believers are encouraged never to be disturbed with the worldwide happenings. Especially when things are not turning out the way we have envisaged. Many aborted plans due to the unexpected pandemic. Nevertheless, in it all we are coming out triumphantly by Gods grace and mercy.

The Reality of Now

There is so much Chaos and uncertainty in the air. Children are out of school, coping with remote learning. Rise in unemployment, price hike of commodity, fear of the unknown. The new look of mask wearing. Businesses are being crippled. Churches are shut down, ceremonies are postponed or done with no gathering of well wishers. Death due to this pandemic becomes a matter of number. We can go on and on, and these are some things we are going through presently as a people all over the world, we have never seen anything like this before. The whole world stood still in the face of this enemy called Coronavirus.

The reality of this virus is terribly draining physically, financially, emotionally, materially, academically and otherwise, this crisis is shaping our entire life’s. This hymn came to mind in a time like this when the world is faced with anxiety.

The Story behind the song

IN TIME LIKE THIS was written by Mrs. Ruth Caye Jones, she was born August 9, 1902, in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania. Ruth was troubled with the event unfolding during the World War II at the time, So she picked her bible to meditate on the word of God in 2 Timothy 3:1 which says This know also that in the last days perilous times will come.” And from that particular portion of the scripture she was inspired to write this hymn through the help of the Holy Spirit, which has been a tremendous blessing to the body of Christ.

This is so amazing that out of crisis a song was perceived and became a blessing to the whole world in fact history had it that when same Ruth was recuperating from a surgery this same song brought comfort and encouragement to her when she most needed.

In Times like these

In Times like these, you need a Savior

In Times like these, you need an Anchor

Be very sure, Be very sure

Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock

This Rock is Jesus yes, He’s the One

This Rock is Jesus, the only One;

Be very sure, Be very sure

Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock

In Times like these, you need the Bible

In Times like these, O be not idle

Be very sure, Be very sure

Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock

This Rock is Jesus yes, He’s the One

This Rock is Jesus, the only One;

Be very sure, Be very sure

Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock.

In Times like these, I have a savior

In Times like these, I have an Anchor

I’m very sure, I’m very sure

My anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock.

This Rock is Jesus yes, He’s the One

This Rock is Jesus, the only One;

Be very sure, Be very sure

Your anchor holds and grips the Solid Rock.

Completely calm

God remains our anchor more than ever before. No matter the storm of life and especially during this pandemic, Jesus is our sure anchor. We can only be secured in Him. No one else can guarantee safety.

Remember the story of Jesus and His disciples on the stormy sea. What audacity does the storm has, but we know who commands all forces in heaven, and on earth, known and unknown. Just a word from the master, the raging of the storm ceased.

In Mark 4:35- 39 On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. (ESV) Praise God!

Another translation NIV says He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. COMPLETELY CALM! I am convinced that same will concerning every storm we are facing right now or yet to come.

Safe and Secure

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. If you have him as your refuge you need not fear in the midst of the storm. God has given us the authority through the name of Jesus to calm every storm.

We shall not me moved psalm 46:1-3 says God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. In verse 2 it says Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; Though its waters roar and foam, Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah. When you make him your rock, in the midst of turbulence your heart is not overwhelmed.

No matter how hard you have been affected by this new normal, you can still have Jesus has the anchor that keeps your soul. Make the word of God your abode, His word is yea and amen. It will never fail.  Make His presence your resting place. And make His name your strong tower. At the mention of His name every knee must bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord. There’s no pandemic, no crisis known and unknown can stand the name Jesus.  As long as you call upon Him from a pure heart, your case is settled!

If you are yet to be for God completely, this is the day of salvation. Invite Jesus into your life and make him your dwelling place!
