This is a popular incident in the Bible which we all could relate with has the story of the axe head. Yes, it’s in second kings chapter 6:1-2. It reads:
Now the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “See, the place where we dwell under your charge is too small for us.
Let us go to the Jordan and each of us get there a log, and let us make a place for us to dwell there.” And he answered, “Go.” There few points by the help of the Holy Spirit we would be looking at. If it can Ben applied to our pursuit in life and ministry, the outcome will be glorious.
Verse 1 says : Now the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, “See, the place where we dwell under your charge is too small for us.
None of us is ever immune from facing limitations or difficulty either in marriage, parenting, business and all facets of life generally. As we can see several examples in the Bible such as Joseph- he has to deal with slavery to become a minister in the pharaoh’s court. Moses had to contend with so many difficulties in his attempt to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt. Elijah and Elisha were both faced with limitations at one point in their life’s and ministries.
Limitations could come in different shapes and sizes, be it physical or spiritual but I pray that whatever limitation you are facing the Lord will set you above it all in Jesus name. They said this place is too limited for us, though they desire to work for God but there is a limitation.
I am convinced that the day they spoke out was not the day they noticed the limitation, it does not matter how long you have been struggling with smallness and limitations, if you make up your mind to move forward, you will reach your Goal with the help of God.
Time to move
The sons of the prophets saw the need for enlargement and improvement. They perceived that it was time to move forward. They said the place we meet with you is too small. They were so discontented with smallness.
When a man becomes satisfied with smallness then he’s finished. You cannot be small on the inside and be great on the outside. Recognizing where you are, is an important factor to knowing where you are going. And if where you desire to be is not where you are then it’s time to move!
The sons of the prophet said there is a limit in which we can expand here. There is a constrain. This is to say that you can be a child of God and still be limited. That is why you must constantly remind yourself. You are born to be great. They that know their God they shall be strong and do exploit. It’s my very special verse anytime, any day.
According to our bible text, It was made clear that these men were not mere men, they were sons of the prophet. The sons of the prophets are also prophets, Yet they lived small. These were miracle carriers yet they lived small. They were there when Elijah patted Jordan, healed Naaman’s disease but for them there was a constrain. They healed the sick, yet for them there was a constraint.
Men of Vision:
Vision is the ability to see a better version of yourself, a bigger picture of where you are going. Your vision is your sight. It takes Vision to see, No one denies what he sees and what you see as the ability to propel you. The sons of the prophet SAW the need to move ahead. Once you know where you are going, you will know how to get there. They could see the future ahead of them hallelujah!
They had a Strategy.
They said let us go to Jordan. The solution to every problem it’s not far-fetched if we can look from the eyes of the spirits.
Jordan was full of logs yet they lived small. Jordan was not out of reach yet they lived small. You know the good news is that God who called them knew there will be a time for expansion and has placed resources within their reach even before they were faced with lack.
Look around you take a few moments think about this. What are you facing right now what are your limitations is there any lack there is a solution around you if you can only look from the eyes of the spirit.
At any point in time you noticed a need as a child of God know that there is a provision already made.
Consider this, why didn’t the sons of the prophet’s deliberate on which river to go?
The answer is they were Men of the spirit No man can truly walk with God and struggle in life, You cannot walk with God and be stranded no way!
